Home  >  Private English classes

Custom-fitted private English classes with an emphasis on communication via the effective use of the language. We’ll work with your current knowledge of English and try to fill the gaps where needed and/or desired, by using topics that interest you. In other words, the core emphasis of these classes would be to build and improve your communication skills while using your areas of interest, wherever it will be possible.

What factors you should consider when picking a language course?

There are various different reasons why an individual wants or has to learn English. You might need to improve your language because of your career or you might just want to be able to talk to people and so on. That will determine the kind of classes you should consider taking.

For instance, if you’re thinking of academic English, you might consider hiring a specialist with academic background. If you however want to be able to express yourself in your everyday life, whether it’s for work or hobbies, think about classes that concentrate on communication, natural understanding and effective use of your vocabulary.

Private English classes: First think about what kind of classes you should consider taking

Practical knowledge vs perfect theoretical English

My lessons will pre-dominantly concentrate on practical communicative English. The major part of our classes would be in the areas of conversation and effective understanding of the language. As opposed to for example the English classes for translators, academic writers or lawyers, these classes should deliver faster progress that will seemingly come at the expense of perfection, but…

Well, it’s true that with this course, you might be more mistake-prone in your speech in the early stages because the emphasis will be mostly on improving your ability to say what you want to say. However, besides the fact that everyone makes mistakes, I personally believe that one shouldn’t be scared of making mistakes, especially if we learn from them and that is precisely one of the core elements of my classes.

The whole learning, as well as the practising process, should therefore be more fun for you because we’ll concentrate on mastering the conversational skills, rather than the mechanical drilling of new vocabulary and grammar.

My teaching qualification, experience and skills

Don’t worry, we’re not talking about some charlatanism English learning process without any qualification. I hold a TESOL/TEFL certificate, which is accredited by a reputable Accreditat as well as CPD certification providers which qualifies me to teach English as a foreign language (TEFL) as well as teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL).

In case you were curious about the practical element about where and how I’ve learned English, please note that I’ve spent 1/2 of my adult life living in London, UK. I can therefore say that I even dream in English. The way I’ve learned the language was a combination of taking numerous Cambridge courses and everyday life, peaking at the academic level with the BA of Arts diploma at the University of London.

Advantages of having a fluent non-native teacher

I personally find understanding the language from the perspective of a non-native speaker to be an advantage. As a former language student, the non-native speaker has a natural ability to understand the challenges posed by different sentence structures as well as vocabulary, numerous tenses and so on.

How you can help me to teach you

First of all, I will need to know the purpose why you want to learn English. With more than 200,000 words in the Oxford English Dictionary, English has a very large vocabulary, some say that it’s the largest one in the world. But don’t worry, you won’t have to learn them all.

In fact, an average English native speaker knows about 20 000 words, while university-educated people know around double that amount. That’s a massive difference, right? Think of it this way. If you want to learn English for business purposes, you might not need to know the same vocabulary as a medic and wise-versa.

You can also tell me what are the best ways of learning for you. Our brains are not identical machines and each individual prefers to learn, understand, process and remember new information in their own unique way. The way we receive the information and how it best stores and retrieves it is very important. There is a lot of debate whether learning styles are genetically or biologically coded, but what seems certain is that an individual’s learning style will affect how we perform.

Needless to say that it will also make the learning process more fun for you. To give you an example, let’s just say that some people respond best to imagery, such as graphs, diagrams and charts. Other people learn well by listening when learners respond well to the written and spoken word and there are also students who learn well through physically interacting with what they are learning about.

In case you’ve never thought of what makes your brain process the information better – this might be a good opportunity to think about it now. After all, it can help you a lot in the future and not only in this course, you could find it useful in many other areas of your life 😉

How much would it cost you?

I will need to spend a considerable amount of time preparing for our classes in order to fit them to your purpose as well as your areas of interest. Regardless of the time of preparation, the standard hourly rate of €30 will remain the same. And yes, you can share that fee with another friend 🙂
